cbc and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) have a collaboration agreement to strengthen the capabilities of the health services in the municipalities of Tecpán and Santa Apolonia in Chimaltenango.

In this activity, technological equipment will be provided to allow quality and timely maternal and neonatal attention.  It will improve the ability to provide health services and to generate decisions in the health system and it will contribute to implement information centers and orientation centers for teenagers.

cbc and UNFPA will be delivering computers to the Health Area Director in Chimaltenango for collecting data and reinforce information and surveillance that will contribute to reduce maternal mortality and to bring a comprehensive health service.

Also, two computer labs will be inaugurated:  the Computer Lab of the Emergency Center at Tecpan and the Computer Lab at the Health Center of Santa Apolonia.  This will bring attention to teenagers, supporting them with friendly interactive centers.

As part of this agreement, the municipalities, civil organizations and information centers for teenagers will have technical assistance for the development of actions already existing in the communities.

For UNFPA, Guatemala is the first opportunity to work in concrete actions with a cooperation agreement together with the private sector.  This is an example of the possibility to establish alliances that permit to contribute in subjects such as comprehensive health, according to the legal framework, to reach sustainable development.

cbc is part of the United Nations Global Compact and aligns its strategies and operations with the Global Compact principles and the objectives of sustainable development, including those of health and wellness, and the alliances to reach common objectives of comprehensive development in the communities.

The inauguration of the computer labs was attended by Ms. Verónica Siman, Country Representative for UNFPA; Rosa Maria de Frade, Corporate Affairs Director at cbc; Dra. Ericka Batzibal, Medical Emergencies Center Director at Tecpán; Dr. Erick de León, Santa Apolonia Health Center; Dr. Miguel González, Health Area Director of Chimaltenango.
