“Aprendizaje Verde” (Green Learning) initiative supports the construction of a sustainable community in the north of Nicaragua

May 2016.   The “Semillas para el Progreso” foundation (Seeds for Progress), cbc Nicaragua and the Tecnológico de Monterrey, got together for the implementation of “Aprendizaje Verde” (Green Learning) in Nicaragua.

“Aprendizaje Verde” (Green Learning) is a virtual community with educational purposes that searches to transmit knowledge and environmental culture to the children of Latin America.  This initiative was developed by the Tecnológico de Monterrey with the support of PepsiCo, Televisa Foundation, The Young Americas Business Trust, The American States Organization, with the support of cbc and “Semillas para el Progreso”.

The three main themes are Water Care, Recycling and Climatic Change and are thought in virtual sessions in an online platform.  The initiative will be implemented in 15 schools that are part of the Digital Seeds Program of the “Semillas para el Progreso” (Seeds for Progress) foundation, reaching 6300 students.

Additionally, as part of this initiative, the schools will receive technological resources to ease the learning process by implementing technology in the classroom.  Once the course is completed, the teachers will receive a certification from the Tecnológico de Monterrey for the use of “Aprendizaje Verde” (Green Learning) and they will be able to promote our planet´s conservation and to teach about reducing the vulnerability to the climatic change.

The workshop will be thought to 250 teachers, municipalities advisors and the Education Ministry (MINED).  The activity will be realized with the collaboration of the Multidisciplinary Regional Faculty of the University of Nicaragua in Esteli on May 4, 5 and 6 and will have the presence of Ms. Rosa Rivas, Executive Director of “Semillas para el Progreso” (Seeds for Progress) foundation, Ms. María Teresa Básquez, teacher of the Tecnológico de Monterrey, Alexia Skinner-Klee, Entrepreneurial Social Responsibility at cbc, Naymara Ocana, cbc Nicaragua and Arturo Cruz, cbc Nicaragua.

The “Semillas para el Progreso” (Seeds for Progress) foundation is an non-profit organization 501 © 4 registered in the United States of America and Nicaragua.  It was founded in 2013 as a way to strengthen existing social programs implemented by Mercon / Cisa Exporter since 1999 in coffee communities in Nicaragua.  The mission of “Semillas para el Progreso” (Seeds for Progress) is to improve the education quality and to provide access to health services in the rural communities of coffee regions in Nicaragua and other coffee production countries.  The foundation benefits more than 6000 children and 3000 families in the coffee region of Nicaragua.
