Health and Nutrition
We are committed to improve the opportunities and to drive the development of all people in the countries in which we operate. We support integral initiatives that improve the health and nutritional status of kids.
In all our programs we emphasize prevention and we contribute to facilitate access to health services and treatments to families with high vulnerability.
Food and Nutrition Safety
To contribute with the efforts to reduce chronic malnutrition, we launched a Food and Nutritional Safety program in Guatemala, a country where 49.8% of children under 5 years old suffer from chronic malnutrition.
We are convinced that by sharing best practices we will reduce malnutrition. That is why we made a strategic alliance with Asociación Puente, a NGO specialized in community work.
Together with Asociación Puente we developed a program at the Santa Apolonia municipality in Chimaltenango, where poverty is 70% and where 74% of children under the age of 5 suffer from malnutrition, one of the largest rates in Guatemala and worldwide.
We work together with the pregnant mothers during its 9 months of pregnancy and during the first 24 months of the infants, a period known as “the window of 1000 days”. If an infant has good nutrition during this 1000 days, he will grow to its full physical and intellectual potential. We give continuing education to women, empowering them and developing its leadership so they can transform their lives and the lives of their children.
Nutrition Alliance
We are part of the Nutrition Alliance, an alliance between private organizations and the civil society of Guatemala. This alliance is committed to fight against chronic malnutrition. The initiative works in three areas:
- Public policies
- Direct actions through field work
- Communication to raise awareness about the malnutrition problem
The Alliance promotes cost-effective actions that help to prevent chronic malnutrition since the moment of conception until the kids reaches the age of 2, the period known as “The Window of 1000 Days”.
Fight Against Childhood Cancer
In cbc we joined initiatives oriented to the early detection and adequate treatment of childhod cancer, especially for kids with limited resources. We contribute to the joint efforts of foundations, NGOs and other companies in collecting funds for the reinforcing of specialized institutions dedicated to the treatment and investigation of kid´s cancer.
In Guatemala we are part of the “Help me to Live Foundation” (Ayúdame a Vivir – AYUVI). This foundation collects funds, providing the necessary resources for the Pediatric Oncology Unit.
Operation Smile
We support initiatives oriented to give free operations for cleft lips and palates in children.
We contribute to the joint efforts of foundations, NGOs and other companies in collecting funds for the realization of medical attention “programs” with international teams and for the training of local doctors for them to perform the operations in their own countries.
We are part of Operation Smile in Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Peru.
Crecer (Growth)
As a contribution for the eradication of chronic malnutrition, we designs a beverage named “Crecer” (Growth) that is formulated with essential vitamins and minerals. This beverage is designed to contribute with the intake of micronutrients in vulnerable populations, especially women in their childbearing years and children under the age of 5.
The effectiveness of “Crecer” (Growth) was tested with scientific studies. Our objective with “Crecer” (Growth) is to be accessible in populations with high chronic malnutrition rates through a shared value model. To increase our reach, we are developing alliances with international organizations, local authorities and NGOs.
